Last week, AIMES CEO Dr Dennis Kehoe visited India and was granted the opportunity to meet Dr Harsh Vardhan. Dr Vardhan, Honourable cabinet Minister for Health and Family Welfare has been a key driver for a number of initiatives in India linking healthcare and new technologies. Dr Vardan, who started his career as an ENT surgeon, has fought and campaigned for many key healthcare issues in India, including the battle against tobacco and drug abuse and is widely recognised for driving the successful campaign to eradicate polio in India. His recent focus has been to motivate the country’s scientists to design and create new technologies and products that will provide innovative solutions to healthcare issues.
Dr Harsh Vardhan and other members of the Ministry of Health and Welfare Government of India have recently commissioned a blueprint document, ‘the National Digital Health Blueprint,’ in April 2019. The document details the government initiatives and goals for the five year plan. The vision quite simply states ‘health and wellbeing for all at all ages.’ The policy and document particularly focuses on leveraging digital technologies to support with health care solutions highlighting a number of key principles of citizen centricity, quality of care, better access, universal health coverage and inclusiveness. The approach is summarised as “think big, start small and scale fast.”
AIMES’s extensive experience working with the NHS will support in driving digital transformation across the healthcare market, potentially working with the Indian Government and individual states. AIMES recent work in delivering secure healthcare environments and network infrastructure, and in particular technologies to support data interoperability and data use to improve patient care, are key components to delivering digital transformation at scale.
